Join us for KAMIKAZE HEARTS (1986), Juliet Bashore's complex, radical cult film antecedent to the New Queer Cinema of the 1990s.

In KAMIKAZE HEARTS, Bashore blurs the lines between reality and fiction for a raw, transgressive and utterly fascinating deep dive into San Francisco’s porn scene and counterculture underground.

The film captures the ups and downs of the tempestuous romantic relationship between charismatic and uninhibited adult film superstar, Sharon Mitchell, and naïve newcomer, Tigr. Through this turbulent, searing love story, Bashore presents an unflinching look at the personal and professional challenges facing sex workers, while playing with documentary form to explore and complicate questions of identity, ethics, and the paradox of intimacy and performance at the core of both documentary filmmaking and pornographic cinema.

For this screening, Spectral Cinema will be joined by Queer & Trans Lehigh Valley, a mutual aid collective providing vital resources, tools and services to our local community.

Spectral Cinema is a collaboration between programmers Dan Santelli and Adrianna Gober.

The mission of Spectral Cinema is to provide the Lehigh Valley area with the opportunity to see independent, arthouse, avant-garde, and experimental cinema, and to foster community under the big screen.
